The Musketeers Brewery was founded in 1999 by 4 brew engineers. Brewing beer was the hobby and passion of these four friends. Their first brews were developed in the kitchen of Kristof's mother. 20 years later, two of the founders - Stefaan Soetemans and Kristof De Roo - are still at the helm of this Belgian brewery.
The Troubadour beers gradually conquered the Belgian and foreign markets. Troubadour Blond is the oldest descendant of the Troubadour family and has been available since 1999. The first beer from the brewery was a blonde beer of 8.5%. According to the brewers, you got drunk too quickly, so they developed a new beer with less alcohol that they named Musketeer. Only that name turned out to be registered. Troubadour Blond saw the light in 1999 and was enjoyed by the beer lover. Two years later, the dark brother followed: Troubadour Obscura. In 2010, the brewers launched their third beer: the Belgian triple IPA Troubadour Magma.
Awards
After Troubadour Blond, Troubadour Magma was an immediate hit as well. This surprising beer won the Zythos Consumer Trophy 2010 at the Zythos Beer Festival in Belgium, chosen by thousands of visitors. Since then, the beers from The Musketeers continue to shine at national and international competitions.
Antigoon, the first Belgian legend
Barely 3 months after the launch, Antigoon won the Silver Medal in 2014 at the international beer competition "Brussels Beer Challenge". A great achievement since more than 700 beers from 25 countries participated. Antigoon was the first hero from the Belgian Legends series. The second Belgian Legends beer followed in 2016: Jack’s Precious IPA. Jack refers to the legend of elephant Jack from the Ghent zoo who did not get sold and was then reduced to sausage. By choosing well-known and unknown Belgian legends, The Musketeers brewery wants to make people talk. Just like their beers.
Export
The Musketeers brewery has not escaped the attention of the international beer lover. The adventure overseas started quite quickly for Troubadour Blond and Troubadour Obscura. Today, Troubadour beers are sold in 15 countries worldwide. In our country you will find the Troubadour beers and Belgian Legends beers in the better catering establishments and liquor stores.
Ecological brewery in the Waasland
The demand for The Musketeers specialty beers continues to grow. In 2016 the brewers decided to buy an old brickyard in Sint-Gillis-Waas. The brickyard was renovated and converted into a contemporary and ecological beer brewery. Adjacent, a new building was erected with room for the offices of The Musketeers, the brewing room and warehouse. The site should not only appeal to beer enthousiasts. The brewery café also offers hikers, cyclists and local residents a pleasant moment of rest in the Waasland.
