Great to be able to taste the effect of wood on beer without having to wait two years! You should definitely try it together with the regular Troubadour Magma, it is really surprisingly different.
EVY
Each year The Musketeers Brewery releases a special one-time edition of the Troubadour Magma beer. The brewers achieve these creations by changing up one part of the brewing recipe. After varying the basic raw materials malt, hops and yeast in previous years, a new ingredient was added in the 2018 edition. Wood chips from American oak provide a wonderful flavour evolution of Troubadour Magma.
Troubadour Magma OAK is still the well-known, typical Belgian IPA but with a twist. The effect of the wood chips is immediately noticed in the aroma. On top of the characteristic exotic fruity aroma of Troubadour Magma, the beer now acquires the scent of cedar, mocha and vanilla. The taste is fruity & spicy and despite the woody character, Troubadour Magma OAK has something velvety with a hint of vanilla, mocha and caramel. The aftertaste is a mix of tannin and hop bitterness. Enjoy this taste explosion!
Brewers talking
As we are curious, we wanted to know what American oak would do with the taste of our Troubadour Magma. The result is surprising: a beer that has taken over the character of the oak without being overpowering. For those who love velvety with a twist!
